He was seventy-five years old. He had been a scholar, a warrior, and a keeper of Gurbani his entire life. When Harmandir Sahib was desecrated, he picked up his weapon and marched. He did not stop until the sacred shrine was restored — and he had given everything he had.

In the long history of the Khalsa, few names inspire awe the way Baba Deep Singh's does. He was not simply a warrior. He was a saint-soldier in the truest and most complete sense — a man who committed his life equally to the sword and to the shabad, and whose final act of sacrifice has become one of the most enduring symbols of Sikh courage and devotion.

His life was one of extraordinary breadth. As a young man, he sat at Damdama Sahib alongside Bhai Mani Singh, transcribing the Pothi Sahib — the sacred scripture that would become Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji — as Guru Gobind Singh dictated it to them. He fought alongside Guru Gobind Singh and then Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in wars against the Mughals. He mastered Gurmukhi, Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic — becoming a scholar of rare distinction. He founded three taksals — academies of Sikh learning — that continue their seva to this day.

When Ahmad Shah Abdali swept through Hindustan, enslaving hundreds of men and women and carrying them back to Kabul, it was Baba Deep Singh who launched daring raids on the Afghan army and rescued them.

And then, in 1757, when Abdali's forces desecrated Harmandir Sahib — the holiest shrine in Sikhdom — Baba Deep Singh made a vow. At the age of seventy-five, he raised his double-edged khanda and marched.

The battle that followed has become legend. Baba Deep Singh fought with a ferocity that stunned the Afghan forces, pressing forward until he had fulfilled his vow and restored Harmandir Sahib to the Sikhs. He gave his life at the gates of the sacred shrine.

Through vibrant illustrations and powerful storytelling, this graphic novel brings every chapter of this extraordinary life to vivid life — the scholarship, the battles, the rescues, and the immortal last stand that has inspired Sikhs across the world for over two and a half centuries.
